Cold and Flu Season: Advice for families on how to Prepare and Battle the Bug
By: Robin Young, Osteopathic Manual Practitioner
Robin’s advice for back-to-school season:
To prepare for the upcoming school year, parents should remind their children to breathe through their noses. This will open their lungs and allow for more oxygen.
Second, encourage your child to chew their food thoroughly. Your stomach does not have teeth, so it is important to chew your food as much as possible – the goal is 28 chews per bite of food, but even doubling what they normally do is a significant help for the digestive system.
These two things are great for running faster and being able to pay attention in class. It also boosts their immune systems!
Help them develop the habit of doing these two things only once per day, and it may become a routine.
