Alana Sutherland , RMT

Registered Massage Therapist

Bio

Alana has been practicing as a registered massage therapist since her graduation from Sutherland Chan School and Teaching Clinic in July 2001. It was during her time in school that she became passionate about women’s health specifically around pregnancy, birth and postpartum concerns.

As well during this time she became interested in energy work, specifically Reiki, and began her journey in 2000 with level 1 certification and then level 2 in 2001. Working with mind, body and spirit is an integral part of her work. In 2008 she became a Reiki master with the intention of one day teaching workshops and deepening her connection to this subtle healing art.

Along the way she has also learned infant massage, hot stone therapy, reflexology, as well as studied Thai massage in Thailand. Utilizing all these tools through a combination of Swedish massage techniques, energy work, deep tissue, myofascial and trigger point therapy, Alana offers therapeutic and relaxation massage, stress relief, maintenance and preventative care.

Along with working collaboratively with the Robin’s Nest team of therapists Alana provides comprehensive treatments that aim to resolve clients issues mind body & spirit. When appropriate she provides clients with remedial exercises for rehabilitation, postural improvement, flexibility and strength. Each plan is customized to address clients’ goals and desired outcomes.

She became a mom in 2011 and since has a passion for working with kids. She offers infant massage classes and one on one sessions. As well offers treatments for children who suffer with tension from sports, stress from school, injuries and chronic conditions.

In her free time she enjoys spending time with her husband and two kids camping, hiking, reading & being crafty. She lives with her family here in Guelph and loves the many parks and green spaces we have to explore!

My Approach

“I believe every client brings their own blend of personal experiences to the table and it’s my commitment to create a treatment protocol that meets those ever evolving needs. I like to challenge my patients to be their best and work within their comfort level; mind, body & spirit.”

What to expect

  • Before a treatment begins, I will review your case history with you and obtain your consent. I will propose a personalized treatment plan based on an initial assessment.
  • An assessment can consist of various tests and palpation to determine the condition of your muscles and joints, which can be done prior to or while on the table.
  • Written consent is obtained, regardless of whether you are fully clothed, or fully or partially covered with sheets or blankets. Your privacy will always be respected, and you may withdraw your consent for treatment at any time.
  • Massage techniques are preformed over the skin or clothes, the treatment is always done within your comfort level, and the treatment can be stopped at any time should the treatment become uncomfortable.
  • While these things do take up a bit of time, my goal is to get you on the table as quickly as possible to maximize the hands on time we have.
