What is Naturopathic Medicine?

Naturopathic Medicine looks at the body as a whole; inquiring into sleep, digestion, nutrition, hormones, mood, health and family history, labwork, and physical function as clues to the puzzles in your body.  These pieces all influence the overall function of the body and can tell us why an illness or a symptom is happening in order to treat it effectively. The treatment is very individualized and education focused, and often includes clinical nutrition, lifestyle counselling, nutritional and botanical supplements, and acupuncture

What does a Naturopathic Doctor Do?

A Naturopathic Doctor provides patients with strategy so they can take control of their health concerns and thrive. They do a thorough review of health history, labwork (which they can order), and physical exams to pinpoint where systems are off.  They teach and empower patients to take charge of their health. They create individualized, feasible and gentle treatment plans focused on the building blocks of health; and act as investigator, advocate and guide for their patients through the healthcare system.

Who would benefit from seeing a Naturopathic Doctor?

  • Anyone who wants to dive in deeper to understand their hormones and how to manage their body’s production and response to hormones
  • Anyone who is fed up with their health concerns
  • Anyone who is confused by the plethora of information online about ‘the best diet’ or ‘the best supplement’
  • Anyone who has been told ‘there is nothing wrong with you’ but they feel something is wrong
  • Anyone who wants to be proactive about disease prevention and health optimization

Which areas does Dr. Janine focus on?

Dr. Janine, ND has the most experience and focuses her patient research on:

  • Fertility
  • Pregnancy and postpartum care
  • Pediatric care (nutrition, digestion, skin health, foundations for lifelong health)
  • Thyroid support
  • Hormonal support (PCOS, endometriosis, PMS, acne, etc.)
  • Perimenopause and menopause

What to expect in the first visit with a Naturopathic Doctor?

  • A deep dive through your health history including your chief concerns; but also sleep, digestion, diet, mood, and hormones.
  • A review of any bloodwork, current supplements and medications, and treatment priorities.
  • A plan outlining: treatment priorities, further bloodwork if relevant, basic nutritional strategies, basic lifestyle strategies, and nutrient supplementation if needed.  The goal is to keep this simple, strategic, and effective.
